Remember when we told you that the Montclair Women’s Club was getting all theatrical? The curtain rises later this month on “Fefu And Her Friends,” an imaginative play by Cuban-American playwright Maria Irene Fornes, presented by students from the B.A. Theatre Studies Program at Montclair State University.
First produced in 1977, “Fefu And Her Friends” follows a thick-as-thieves group of 1930s women as they spend an eventful day at Fefu’s country house. The play moves the action, and the audience, from room to room in Fefu’s home — which in this case will be different locations in our Union Street clubhouse. Under the direction of assistant professor of theatre and dance Jessica Brater, MSU students have worked for a semester to research and rehearse this lively example of “site-specific” theater.
“Fefu And Her Friends” will be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the Montclair Women’s Club, 82 Union Street, Montclair. Suggested donation: $10. Here’s a press release with details about the production.
Hope to see you there!
